Deanna Whitley began her career in 1992 as a criminal defense attorney at the firm of Nicholas and Barrera in San Antonio, Texas. There, she worked on high profile and complex criminal law cases, many of which included the appeals of the underlying trials. Ms. Whitley won the Woodley Award at St. Mary's University School of Law as the outstanding criminal law student in her class. At St. Mary's, she was on the National Dean's List, won American Jurisprudence Awards, and was a research and teaching assistant for Professor John Schmolesky. Ms. Whitley taught a constitutional law and criminal law tutorial course for first year students.
After the birth of her first child, Ms. Whitley began managing and providing legal services for her family's dental business on the eastside of San Antonio. Working for an underserved community has been, and continues to be, extraordinarily rewarding and fulfilling of Ms. Whitley's personal life beliefs. After observing how many low income families had difficulty accessing dental care, Ms. Whitley and her family created two mobile dental clinics that currently cater to patients in south Texas
The opportunity to work with Lisa Vance attracted Ms. Whitley back into the practice of law. In the past several years, her work has included a focus on family law. Both Ms. Vance and Ms. Whitley have long shared a commitment to acting in the best interests of children in all family law litigation. Their high standards and uncompromising ethics have allowed these women to build a family law practice that promotes a gentler focus on marital termination, assisting clients in ending marriages without destroying their families.
