Attorney Joe Welsh is an experienced trial lawyer.
Experienced New Hampshire Attorney
Prior to entering private practice, Attorney Welsh was a senior trial attorney at the New Hampshire Public Defender program, where for thirteen years he defended individuals in all courts throughout Rockingham and Strafford Counties.
Attorney Welsh has successfully defended people charged with the most serious of crimes, including murder. His clients have been acquitted following trials at the superior, district, and family court levels.
As a senior attorney at the Public Defender program, Attorney Welsh also supervised new attorneys and instructed them in all areas, with a focus on New Hampshire motor vehicle law and DUI litigation.
International Trial Team Lawyer
In 2001, Attorney Welsh took a leave from the Public Defender’s office to work as a trial team lawyer at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Netherlands.
While there, he helped investigate and prosecute political and military leaders from the former Yugoslavia who were charged with genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. Following this experience, he returned to New Hampshire to resume trial work.

Attorney Welsh’s legal interests extend beyond the practice of criminal law. He has also fought to protect the rights of individuals in family law matters, including child custody cases. He is a tireless advocate for his clients and is a highly respected member of the defense bar.

Attorney Welsh is a member of the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. An honors graduate from the University of Maine School of Law, Attorney Welsh was born and raised in Portland, Maine, and now lives in the seacoast area with his wife and three children.
