Art Licygiewicz is an experienced litigator and transactional attorney focusing on intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on patent, trademark and trade secret litigation, licensing, and the preparation and negotiation of intellectual property-related agreements.
Art has substantial experience litigating and managing complex intellectual property cases, from pre-complaint investigation to trial and appeal, that focus on electrical, mechanical, and computer-related technologies. He has handled cases involving liquid crystal displays, semiconductor circuitry and packaging, computer networking, computer software, internet systems and protocols, error correction algorithms, encryption, consumer electronics, optics, sensors, oil and gas exploration equipment, automotive parts and systems, control systems, plastic molding and extrusion, compressors, and turbines. Art has represented clients in cases involving patent-related antitrust matters, licensing disputes, breach of contract, covenants not to compete, fraud, and deceptive trade practices. In addition, he has taken a lead role in mediations and arbitrations.
Art also counsels clients on intellectual property issues. He advises clients on acquisition and enforcement strategies and on intellectual property issues related to mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring. Art has drafted and negotiated a variety of intellectual property-related agreements, including license, distribution, joint development, manufacturing, supply, and confidentiality agreements. He has prepared noninfringement, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate opinions. He also has prosecuted trademark applications.
Prior to entering law school, Art worked as a sales engineer for a company in Waukegan, Illinois that designed and supplied ash handling equipment for the power industry.
