Michelle Wakino is a special counsel in the Tax Practice Group. She joined the firm in 2002. Ms. Wakino focuses her practice on the federal tax and ERISA aspects of designing and administering retirement programs, profit-sharing plans, ESOPs (employee stock ownership plans), cafeteria plans and other welfare benefits. Her clients include many major universities and colleges, as well as for-profit entities. She has been the primary benefit plan drafter for major universities, non-profit organizations and for-profit entities throughout the country.
Practice
Ms. Wakino has particular experience in employment tax and withholding issues for for-profit and tax-exempt organizations, including the treatment of litigation settlements, scholarships and fellowships and fringe benefits. In numerous instances, Ms. Wakino has represented clients before governmental agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service and US Department of Labor, in audits, rulings and disputes.
Ms. Wakino is a Certified Public Accountant.
