Brian S. Lent served as the Managing Attorney for the Zurich American Staff Legal office. He had previously served as Chief Trial Counsel and Senior Trial Attorney for several other house counsel offices. Mr. Lent has tried more than 75 civil jury cases involving arson, assault, construction accidents, construction defects, premises liability products liability, automobile accidents, veterinary malpractice and professional responsibility. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from New York Law School in 1984, is a member of the New York State Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts. Mr. Lent has successfully argued appeals before the Appellate Division in both the First and Second Departments. He also authored the motion leading to the Court of Appeals decision in Narducci v. Manhasset Bay Assoc., 96 N.Y.2d 259, which significantly curtailed the types of accidents covered by New York Labor Law section 240. Since becoming associated with the firm, Mr. Lent has obtained a directed verdict in a Kings County slip and fall case, which was later settled by the remaining defendant for $175,000. He also tried a Nassau County trip and fall case where the plaintiff alleged the existence of a defective staircase and insufficient lighting as the cause for his accident. The jury returned a liability verdict of 63% against the plaintiff for comparative fault.
