Geoffrey Vitt represents companies and individuals in general civil litigation, trial and appellate, in state and federal courts throughout New Hampshire and Vermont.  For more than 30 years, Mr. Vitt has obtained favorable results in trials before judges, juries, arbitrators and appellate tribunals in the New England, mid-Atlantic and southeastern regions.  Of equal import, he often is able to settle cases on excellent terms well short of trial, often at the very earliest stages of disputes.  He is accomplished in representing clients in the field of alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation.

Having been a partner at law firms big and small, including at a major Wahsington, D.C. law firm, Mr. Vitt has a sound legal business grounding in numerous areas of industry, finance and commerce -- old economy and new-- and of individual rights and liabilities under federal and state laws.  Areas in which he has litigated and counseled include banking and lender liability, intellectual property (including trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition), computer technology, consumer protection, commercial contracts, and commercial torts, insurance, bankruptcy, employee benefits, and virtually all areas of employment law and practice, including the prosecution and defense of statutory and common law suits for wrongful discharge, age, gender and disability discrimination, college faculty tenure, breach of covenants not to compete, theft of trade secrets, misappropriation of corporate opportunities, and retaliatory personnel action for alleged "whistleblowing" against employer wrongdoing.  

Recently, he succeeded in defending a British software company in New Hampshire state court against a claim that it had stolen trade secrets, he defended a national bank against a series of lawsuits in Vermont and New Hampshire state and federal courts, and he successfully prosecuted a trademark lawsuit on behalf of a local business in which he obtained the largest trademark judgment in United States history. Most recently, he persuaded the Vermont Supreme Court to reverse a trial court decision, successfully arguing an exemption from property taxes on behalf of a substantial foundation.
