Like the other partners at Murphy, Volbrecht & Kuehn, S.C., Law was not my first career.  I decided to become an attorney in high school at Union Grove Christian School, where I graduated Valedictorian.  During the Summers, I learned the value of hard work by being employed in landscaping.

I went to college for one year at University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and then proudly joined and served in the United States Marine Corps in combat operations as an Infantryman.  From the beginning of basic training, we were taught three basic principles: Honor, Courage and Commitment.

My theory of practicing law exactly mirrors my training in the Marine Corps - to display Honor, Courage and Commitment at all times.  Litigation is battle, and battle is waged mentally just as much as physically.  However, I have learned that I can litigate zealously while still being honorable both to my opponent and to the courts.  I have found that honor and respect returns in kind from the numerous judges in whose courts I have appeared, and from opposing attorneys. 

Courage.  Surrender is easy (taking a lesser deal or offer), especially when a legal situation appears hopeless.  My training does not allow surrender.  Throwing up a white flag is not Courage.

Commitment.  The motto of the Marine Corps is Semper Fidelis, Latin for: Always Faithful.  My Country, my Clients and the courts deserve dependability, and I have always determined to be faithful.  If I accept a task, I will perform it to the best of my ability and effort.

I graduated from UW-Parkside magna cum laude.  While in Parkside then in Law School full-time at Marquette University, I also worked full time as a sales associate for U.S. Cellular.  My first job as an attorney was at Rizzo & Diersen, S.C., in both their Kenosha and Burlington offices.  While there, I sharpened my legal skills in practicing personal injury, criminal defense and civil  and commercial litigation, including contracting case involving real estate, construction, and home improvement.  I learned quickly that nothing is handed to you - you must fight hard for victory.  I have appeared in county courts in Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, Ozaukee, Washington, Milwaukee, Rock, Jefferson, Dane and Sauk.  I have also specially appeared in Lake and Cook Counties in Illinois, admitted pro hac vice (a legal term allowing a lawyer not licensed in that state to appear and litigate specific cases).  I have further been admitted to the Federal Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts in Wisconsin.

In 2006, I became an ordained Minister at Grace Valley Bible Church in Paddock Lake, Wisconsin.  I currently live in Kenosha with my wife and four children.
