Hong-Van Le joined Jones Day in February 2006. She is involved in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications in the areas of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Van also has experience with opinion work and European oppositions.
As a graduate student under the mentorship of Dr. Joan Massague at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Van carried out research in the field of cancer biology. Her thesis project focused on the TGF-beta cell cycle arrest program, the mechanism regulating transcription of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21Cip1 by Smads and Myc, and the role of p21Cip1 in apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents. While an undergraduate student, Van also did research in stem cell biology and tissue engineering. She has coauthored research publications in scientific journals such as the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cell, Nature, and Biotechnology Bioengineering.
