Peter Laun has experience in a wide variety of areas, including insurance, product liability, toxic torts, commercial, business tort, employment, class actions, and engineering/construction. He has litigated in numerous federal and state courts, including courts in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Texas, Mississippi, Minnesota, New Jersey, and California, and his experience includes trials in state and federal courts, injunction actions, governmental agency proceedings, arbitrations, and mediations. Peter also has handled matters and arbitrations in foreign countries, including the U.K., Bermuda, and Brazil. He has extensive experience in international discovery and electronic discovery issues.

As a particular focus of his practice, Peter represents policyholders in insurance coverage disputes and counsels clients concerning insurance matters. In recent years, he has recovered more than $600 million for clients in insurance matters involving virtually every type of insurance policy, including property, directors and officers, errors and omissions, general liability, employment practices, environmental, and workers compensation. Peter has extensive experience in complex property damage and business interruption claims in the U.S. and abroad, and he also has handled reinsurance claims. Peter has drafted insurance policies and has represented policyholders in matters involving virtually all of the leading U.S. and non-U.S. insurers.

Before joining Jones Day in 1993, Peter served as an in-house attorney with Alcoa. He is an avid tennis and platform tennis player and played lacrosse in college. Peter is involved in a wide range of community activities ranging from pro bono matters to coaching lacrosse. He has spoken and written on a range of insurance topics.
