Danielle Varnell's practice is concentrated on corporate transactions in the energy industry. She advises U.S. and international clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and development projects.

Danielle has worked extensively on energy-related mergers and acquisitions, particularly in the area of sale and purchase of renewable, fossil fuel, and nuclear generation assets. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2011, she advised the strategic and financial buyers and sellers on the purchase, sale, or development of more than 4000 MW of wind generation, 650 MW of solar generation, and 4000 MW of nuclear generation assets having an aggregate value in excess of $18 billion.

Danielle's practice also includes advising clients on significant electric transmission and other energy infrastructure projects. She has been active in structuring, drafting, and negotiating transactions involving stock and asset sales, investments, joint ventures, development, construction and acquisition financing, and other agreements on behalf of clients in various industries. She has considerable experience in workouts, insolvency, and restructuring and has represented creditors, both secured and unsecured, and debtors in all stages of the bankruptcy process.

Danielle is a member of the Women's Council on Energy and the Environment, an advisory board member of the Washington, D.C. chapter of Big Jobs Little Kids, and a member of the board of directors of Isabel's Gift, a charitable organization. She also serves as a mentor to younger lawyers and has spoken on nuclear energy.
