Mia VanAuken, a Siena alumni, is a magna cum laude 2002 graduate of Albany Law School where she was an Associate Editor for the Albany Law Review and a member of the Justinian Society. While at Albany Law, Mia was admitted through the student practice rule of New York to represent victims of domestic violence in the Family Violence Clinic.
Mia completed a clerkship with the New York State Appellate Division, Third Department, where she did extensive research and analysis of factual and legal principles and prepared preliminary reports for the Court. As an Assistant Solicitor General with the New York State Office of the Attorney General, Appeals and Opinions Bureau, Mia researched and prepared formal and informal opinions in response to requests from municipalities' counsel as well as state agencies on a wide variety of issues, including the Home Rule and State and Federal Preemption.
Mia's practice of law is civil litigation and appeals with a focus on the defense of medical and hospital malpractice. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Albany County Bar Association, and the Northern District Federal Bar Association. Mia is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Saratoga Academy of the Arts and Science, a not-for-profit school.
Mia is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
