Robert M. Langer is a partner in the firm's Litigation Department and head of the firm's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice Group. Mr. Langer is involved in all aspects of antitrust, consumer protection and trade regulation counseling and litigation, representing clients in both federal and state courts, and before the Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, as well as offices of state attorneys general throughout the United States.

Before joining Wiggin and Dana in 1994, Mr. Langer was the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust and Consumer Protection Department of the Office of the Connecticut Attorney General, where for more than twenty years he litigated numerous antitrust and consumer matters in both federal and state trial and appellate courts.

A graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (A.B.) and the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D.), Mr. Langer was admitted to practice in 1973.

Mr. Langer served as Chair of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) Multistate Antitrust Task Force from 1990 to 1992, and in that capacity served as the NAAG Representative to the Council of the Section of Antitrust Law of the American Bar Association (ABA).

Mr. Langer currently serves as Chair of the Janet D. Steiger Fellowship Project and as a member of the Advisory Board on Section Reserves of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law. He previously served as the Section's Finance Officer, a member of the Council, Chair of the Consumer Protection Committee, Co-Chair of the Legislation Committee, Co-Chair of the Federal and State Legislative Policy Task Force, Vice-Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee and Chair of the State Antitrust Enforcement Committee. He has also contributed to numerous Section publications, including several editions of Antitrust Law Developments, every edition of State Antitrust Practice and Statutes and most recently, as a member of the Editorial Board of Consumer Protection Law Developments, editing significant portions of the over 200 page state law chapter of this comprehensive treatise on state, federal and international consumer protection law..

Since 1979, Mr. Langer has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Business Administration, MBA Program, where he teaches constitutional, antitrust and trade regulation law.

Mr. Langer is a member of both the Bureau of National Affairs Antitrust and Trade Regulation Report Advisory Board and the Board of Editors of the Matthew Bender Antitrust Report. He is the past Co-Chair of the Antitrust & Trade Regulation Committee of WESFACCA (formerly the Corporate Bar Association of Westchester and Fairfield).

Mr. Langer lectures and writes regularly on antitrust, consumer protection, and health care topics. Mr. Langer is the co-author of a treatise, entitled Unfair Trade Practices, published by Thomson West in 2003 as Volume 12 of its Connecticut Practice Series. He has also written several Op-ed articles on a variety of legal issues for publications such as The New York Times and The Hartford Courant and has been the subject of numerous interviews for publications such as FTC: WATCH, International Merger Law and the ABA's Antitrust magazine.

In 1991, Mr. Langer received the Marvin Award from NAAG in recognition of his leadership, expertise and achievement in advancing the goals of that organization. In 1994, Mr. Langer was voted by the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Bar Foundation to become a Charter Fellow of the James W. Cooper Fellows Program and served as Chair of the Fellows Program from 2000-2006. He served from 1998-2000 as Chair of the Fellows Advisory Research Committee. In 1995, Mr. Langer received an award for outstanding service to businesses and consumers from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection for his work in the development of the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act.
