Lou Lang is the Assistant Majority Leader of the Illinois House of Representatives, and is considered the “Voice of Labor” in Springfield. Lou is also of counsel to Goldberg Weisman Cairo and has been affiliated with them since 1995. It is as a result of this relationship that he is able to spend a significant amount of his time doing work for the people of the State of Illinois in government service. Lou is most proud of the fact that he is associated with a law firm that shares his commitment to working men and women and to organized labor. He is also proud of his efforts in helping the law firm maintain its excellent ties to the lawmakers in Springfield.
Lou has spent many years working on bringing gambling to the State of Illinois. He has been the chief sponsor of every gambling bill that has become law bringing thousands of new jobs to Illinois. He is currently working on a bill to bring additional casinos to Illinois including sites in Chicago, and the Northern and Southern suburbs. This bill is very important because new casino's will bring jobs to union workers in Illinois. It will also increase revenue in Illinois as more conventions and tourists will come to our State and participate in gaming. Lou has also been an advocate for legalizing medical marijuana and has been the chief sponsor for this bill. Lou believes that legal medical marijuana is essential to help the citizens of Illinois who suffer from a myriad of diseases get relief from medical marijuana.
Lou has lived in Skokie for more than 50 years and represents the same district he grew up in since the age of 6. Lou graduated with high honors from the University of Illinois, Champaign. He then attended DePaul University, College of Law, Chicago and graduated in June 1974 with honors.
Lou acted as the Attorney for Niles Township from 1977 — 1987, and was the Chief Attorney for the Cook County Emergency Telephone Systems Board. Lou is married and is the proud father of 5 children and 2 grandchildren.
