Emmanuel Ubiñas's practice is concentrated in business litigation, including representing clients in cases involving contract disputes, e-commerce, local and state hotel taxes, enforcement of foreign judgments, cross-border disputes, and multiparty product liability and toxic tort litigation. Emmanuel has represented clients in matters pending before state and federal courts as well as arbitrators and administrative agencies.
Emmanuel's representations includes a significant role in the defense of Expedia, Hotels.com, and Hotwire in multiple individual and class actions brought by tax authorities seeking to retroactively extend local and state hotel taxes traditionally imposed only on hotels to online travel companies facilitating hotel reservations. Emmanuel has also worked on and led arbitration matters relating to contractual post-closing adjustments and indemnification claims for a Fortune 1000 company. He has been a member of several trial teams, including a team of Jones Day lawyers who obtained a defense verdict in a toxic tort case, which The National Law Journal recognized as one of the top 20 defense wins in 2002.
Emmanuel, a native and fluent speaker of Spanish, has had extensive experience working on Latin America-related litigation for Fortune 500 companies. This work has included legal and factual investigation and development in several Latin America countries, including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Mexico.
Emmanuel is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association.
