Jim was admitted to the California Bar in 1978, after graduation from Pepperdine University Law School.

Jim is one of only 100 California attorneys who are certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a civil trial specialist.

Jim has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" every year since 2006, which places him in the top 5 percent of attorneys in California, as chosen by his peers and through independent research (see Superlawyers.com). He also has an AV Preeminent rating, the highest possible rating of legal ability.

Jim is responsible for hundreds of Arbitrations and Jury Trials resulting in exceptional verdicts, including many seven-figure verdicts in low-offer cases. Jim and his wife, Jill, live in Laguna Hills. Their three grown children have flown the coop, although a daughter, Taylor, who graduated from Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania, and UCLA Law School, recently joined the Traut Firm.
