A.MICHAEL KOPEC was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1950. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1975; the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit in 1978; and the United States District Court, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois in 1982. Mr. Kopec graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Economics in 1972, and he graduated from Indiana University with his Juris Doctorate in 1975. Prior to starting his private practice in 1987, Mr. Kopec was an Appellate Attorney in the Office of the State Appellate Defender from 1975-1977 and Assistant Attorney General for the Franchise Division in the State of Illinois from 1977-1980.
In his practice, Mr. Kopec has represented numerous franchisors since 1986 in Illinois and throughout the U.S. That representation has included franchise law compliance, preparation of franchise disclosure documents and general corporate and transactional matters. He has also tried a number of civil cases to verdict before juries in Illinois state courts.
Mr. Kopec is a member of the Sangamon County Bar Association (SCBA), Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) and American Bar Association (ABA), and he has a high to very high Peer Review Legal Ability Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
