Hoyt grew up in Shelby, North Carolina. After graduating from North Carolina State University and Campbell University School of Law, Hoyt went to work at the largest law firm in North Carolina, where he represented insurance companies, banks and other large corporations. Hoyt soon realized that he should help those who need help the most. Hoyt came to Martin & Jones and now leads the personal injury section of the firm. Hoyt works on personal injury, malpractice, insurance fraud and products liability claims. He has extensive experience representing people seriously injured in trucking wrecks.
After hearing an increasing number of complaints about long-term care, Hoyt answered the call of the family members whose loved ones suffered in nursing homes and rest homes. During the last ten years, Hoyt has represented more and more victims of nursing home and assisted living facility abuse and neglect.
Hoyt has tried cases in all North Carolina federal courts and throughout the state of North Carolina. Hoyt is the past chairman of the North Carolina Bar Association's Litigation Section and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice's Auto Tort Section. Currently, Hoyt serves on the Board of Governors for the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. Hoyt was chosen to attend noted trial lawyer Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyer's College in 1997. After attending the college, Gerry invited Hoyt to join the Faculty of the College. In addition to teaching lawyers at the Trial Lawyer's College, Hoyt is a frequent instructor for continuing education programs and teaches jury selection to Campbell University third year law students.
