Prior to entering the practice of law, Jim Kirk worked extensively in the field of public relations and public affairs. He served as a vice president with two major public relations firms, representing such clients as UK Trade & Investment, the London Stock Exchange, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Prior to moving to New York, he served as director of communications for a major Canadian political party and as a senior communications official for a major public sector labor union in Canada. Jim also has worked extensively in the field of democratic development. His work on behalf of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs has taken him to Yemen, Kenya, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
