Recognized for her genuine concern for clients and astute understanding of the law, Maureen has been serving the unique legal needs of individual clients for more than a quarter century. A member of our personal/family services group, she offers expertise in family law and divorce, children's law, real estate law, probate law, estate planning, wills, Social Security disability, elder law and estate planning for nonmarried couples.
Maureen is a native of Amery in northern Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior before graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1972 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW). She again received honors in 1975 when she was an Order of the Coif graduate of the UW Law School.
Today, Maureen is admitted to practice in the state of Wisconsin and the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. She is a member of the La Crosse County Bar Association, Wisconsin Bar Association and American Bar Association.
Maureen is involved in a number of professional activities - evidence of her commitment to ethics and integrity in the practice of law. On several occasions, she has been a general practice instructor for the University of Wisconsin Law School and was a member of the Wisconsin Supreme Court Gender Equity Committee. She has been involved in bar association activities and is a past president of the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Wisconsin. She has been the treasurer of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the president of the La Crosse County Bar Association.
Also active in her community, Maureen is dedicated to advancing women's and environmental issues. She is a board member and past president of the League of Women Voters and past president of the New Horizons Women's Shelter. She also serves or has served on boards for the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center, the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, Inc., and the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission. She is also a member of the Sierra Club.
In addition, Maureen has served on boards for the Boys and Girls Club of La Crosse, St. Francis Foundation (now Franciscan Skemp Foundation), and the Public Intervenor Advisory Committee - Wisconsin Attorney General's Office. She has also served on the Planned Giving Advisory Committee for Western Wisconsin Technical College (WWTC) and has provided estate planning lectures for the college's staff development department.
