Barbara McKinney is the firm’s senior title paralegal, with over twenty-three years of experience dealing with real estate and title insurance issues in Georgia. As a teenager in the 1950’s, McKinney learned title abstracting at the Adel, Iowa courthouse as an apprentice with her father’s business, the Dallas County Abstract Company. McKinney received her initial training and experience with Georgia title insurance commitments and policies in 1986 when she began paralegal work with an Atlanta title agency.
In 1987, Barbara McKinney joined the litigation department of Smith, Gambrell, and Russell to assist in handling insurance claims for Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation. In that role, McKinney investigated claims, analyzed title instruments and issues, communicated with claimants, surveyors, and witnesses, and assisted with the more complex claims and any resultant litigation.
In 1990, McKinney joined Diment Carroll LLP, where McKinney has continued her work analyzing and assisting in the resolution of real estate title issues involving both claims and litigation. McKinney’s particular strengths are analyzing title instruments, communicating with claimants, surveyors, and abstractors, and diagnosing and implementing cures for title issues involving both owners and lenders, utilizing the vast network of contacts that she has developed over the years.
