Jimmy Tabb concentrates his practice on representing clients facing potential liability in securities claims (civil and criminal), wage and hour class actions, and environmental actions. He also represents clients in related class actions to recover insurance benefits.
Jimmy's successes include acting as second-chair trial counsel for a corporate defendant in a multimillion dollar breach of contract, tort, and punitive damages action in which the plaintiffs dismissed their tort and punitive damages claims against the client during trial, and in which the court found for the client on all contract interpretation issues, thereby reducing the plaintiffs' contract damages claim by approximately $3.3 million. He also obtained dismissal, and appellate affirmance of same, on behalf of a corporate defendant in an action challenging sales tax charges to clients' customers pursuant to California regulations. In addition, he obtained summary judgment on behalf of a corporate policyholder in a $75 million plus indemnity case arising out of a construction dispute in Australia and secured carrier-funded defenses on behalf of the corporate policyholders in multimillion dollar environmental and construction disputes.
He also negotiated a settlement on behalf of a corporate policyholder in a multimillion dollar builder's risk policy claim. He was involved in negotiations that resolved decades-old CERCLA disputes arising out of the contaminated Stringfellow Hazardous Waste Site as well, and his participation included assisting the state of California in its insurance coverage litigation. Furthermore, he obtained air emission variances from the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District Hearing Board during California's energy crisis.
Jimmy is active in pro bono efforts, having assisted an Ethiopian refugee obtain political asylum and a teenage Honduran refugee obtain Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status. He is a member of the state bars of California and Georgia, the South Asian Bar Association, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) (charter member, San Diego chapter), STAR/PAL San Diego (board member), and Casa Cornelia Law Center Inn of Court (founding member).
