Michael Sweeney has practiced in Connecticut since 1983. His experience has been in commercial and residential real estate, condominium developments, commercial leasing and financing, zoning, land use litigation and real property litigation. He regularly handles complex commercial transactions which involve real estate development for builders and developers in Fairfield County including office buildings, condominiums, subdivisions, and shopping centers. Mr. Sweeney represents many diverse clients in land use applications throughout Fairfield County and regularly appears before town boards and commissions in the Towns of New Canaan and Darien. He has recently represented clients in the following matters:
• The acquisition of a 58,000 square foot office building and marina in Norwalk;
• The purchase of a 240,000 square foot Transfer Act industrial building ;
• The acquisition of a 20,000 square foot office building in New Canaan;
• The purchase of a health care facility in Stamford;
• The creation, financing and sale of several hundred condominium Units in Stamford;
• Rezoning of a hospital campus;
• Acquisition of a 38,000 square foot office complex in Westport;
• Sale of a 20 acre 263,000 square foot Transfer Act manufacturing facility in Norwalk ;
• Expansion of Not for Profit campus in New Canaan; and
• Purchase of 200,000 aquare foot commercial building in Danbury.
His litigation advocacy involves zoning appeals for property owners in Connecticut Courts. In a recent noteworthy decision, the Connecticut Supreme court adopted his view in upholding a zoning permit enabling his client to continue its business in New Canaan. Mr. Sweeney has been an instructor in real property law at Norwalk Community College and Greenwich Public Schools Continuing Education. He holds a B.A. degree from Fairfield University, 1980 and a J.D. degree from Suffolk University Law School, 1983. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, the U.S. Courts for the District of Connecticut and the United States Supreme Court. He has been a member of the Executive Committee of Planning and Zoning Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. Mr. Sweeney resides in New Canaan with his wife, Kathleen, and their four children.
