Commercial Litigation
In addition to Internet-based litigation, Mr. Syverson has handled a full range of commercial- and consumer-based disputes in federal and state courts across the country. He recently obtained a multi-million dollar defense trial verdict in a case involving the outdoor advertising industry. With millions of dollars at stake, Erik defended his corporate client's right to maintain billboards along Interstate 405 in Southern California and obtained an award of attorney fees.  Other recent trial victories include the successful representation of a national travel company in enforcing secured promissory notes against former corporate executives.

Recent Litigation and Trial Successes
Lambotte v. IAC/Interactive Corp.:  In a class action matter, Mr. Syverson obtained a multi-million dollar settlement on behalf of businesses advertising on the Citysearch.com website and network.

Social Media Disputes and Harassment:  Mr. Syverson has represented several financial services executives, entertainers and  pro athletes, including NBA stars, with respect to defamatory and harassing social media content.  Erik has obtained numerous confidential settlements and removals of defamatory and harassing content.

Allen Lund Company, Inc. v. AT&T, Inc. et al: In U.S. District Court, attorney Syverson defended a consumer class action lawsuit against several long distance telephone carriers relating to overcharges and deceptive billing.  Over $100,000,000  in damages were sought, the case settled for approximately $2,000,000 in phone card rebates.

Business Defamation:  Mr. Syverson recently obtained a six figure settlement for trade libel and defamation on behalf of a national consumer sales company as well as securing the removal of multiple defamatory internet postings.

Superior Property of Carson, LLC v. Viacom Outdoor, Inc.: Mr. Syverson acted as lead trial counsel defending an outdoor advertising company in a multimillion-dollar dispute relating to billboard rights along Interstate 405 in Los Angeles County before the Hon. James R. Dunn. After a 14-day trial, the judgment was rendered in favor of Mr. Syverson's client including an award of all the defendants' attorneys' fees and expenses. Additionally, the judgment was upheld before the California Court of Appeal. Mr. Syverson prepared and successfully argued the appeal on behalf of his client.

Affiliate Marketing: Mr. Syverson recently defended one of the country's fastest growing affiliate marketing networks in a trademark infringement case in U.S. District Court.  Mr. Syverson obtained  a favorable settlement whereby his client paid no money to the plaintiff and secured a dismissal of all monetary claims.

Girls Gone Wild Litigation: Attorney Syverson defended Girls Gone Wild founder Joseph Francis before the Hon. William F. Highberger in a class action consumer action lawsuit related to the marketing and sale of the defendants' DVD's through internet marketing and television infomercial sales. 

The Orchard Enterprises, Inc. v. Tufamerica, Inc.: In U.S. District Court, Mr. Syverson served as lead counsel defending Tufamerica, Inc. in a complex Internet digital music distribution and advertising case. Both parties alleged multi-million dollar claims for breach of contract and fraud. The dispute involved more than 20,000 musical tracks including artists such as Ray Charles and Queen Latifah. The distribution of music occurred exclusively on the internet.  Erik negotiated a confidential settlement on behalf of his client.
