Michael L. Sullivan ("Sully") leads the Government Relations, Land Use & Zoning practice at Andersen, Tate & Carr. His practice is focused on representing clients in all types of government relations matters at both the state and local levels. Mr. Sullivan is widely regarded as one of the most respected and effective zoning and land use attorneys in Metro Atlanta. Mr. Sullivan is also a registered Georgia lobbyist, representing clients in government relations and lobbying efforts before the Georgia General Assembly, Governor's Office, state agencies and departments as well as numerous county and city governments in the North Metro Atlanta area.
Mr. Sullivan's strong commitment to public service and community involvement is evident from his service on the following statewide, regional and local boards: appointed to the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia by Governor Sonny Perdue; Chairman of the Gwinnett County Water & Sewer Authority; Georgia Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors); Council for Quality Growth (Board of Directors); Regional Business Coalition of Metropolitan Atlanta (Board of Directors); Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce (Public Policy Council); Brookwood Schools Foundation (Board of Trustees); Gwin Oaks Elementary School Council (Chairman) and the Georgia Property Rights Coalition.
Mr. Sullivan has previously been appointed by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners to serve on the Engage Gwinnett: Citizens Committee for the Future of Gwinnett County, as well as the Gwinnett Clean Indoor Air Ordinance Study Committee (Chairman, 2004) and Gwinnett County Impact Fee Study Committee (Chairman, 2006).
Mr. Sullivan was named a Georgia Super Lawyer "Rising Star" by Law and Politics and Atlanta Magazine and has twice been named to James Magazine's annual list of "Georgia Super Lawyers."
Mr. Sullivan has been actively engaged in politics for more than 20 years at the local and statewide level and has served as counsel and advisor to numerous elected officials, candidates and political organizations. His political involvement includes having been previously elected to the Republican National Convention and Georgia Republican Party State Committee; having served as Vice-Chairman of the Athens-Clarke County Republican Party, General Counsel of the Gwinnett Republican Party, Chairman of the Gwinnett Young Republicans and on the Orange County Republican Party County Committee. Mr. Sullivan also served as the Gwinnett County Campaign Co-Chairman for Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue in 2002 and 2006 and was a member of Governor Perdue's Inaugural Committee.
Mr. Sullivan received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was President of the Student Bar Association and a member of the Moot Court Team and Federalist Society. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Georgia, where he was President of Phi Alpha Delta.
Mr. Sullivan served as a member of the University of Georgia School of Law's Younger Law Alumni Committee and has worked to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Gwinnett Open Land Trust and the Gwinnett Children's Shelter.
Mr. Sullivan is licensed to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Mr. Sullivan is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Real Property Law Section and Local Government Law Section), Gwinnett County Bar Association, Republican National Lawyers Association and Federalist Society. Mr. Sullivan also manages the Firm's Summer Associate Program.
Mr. Sullivan, His wife, Rebecca Sullivan, have two children: Grace and Nash. The Sullivans live in Lilburn and attend Grace Fellowship Church in Snellville.
