Francis X. Suarez is an attorney with the law firm of Alvarez & Barbara, LLP. He practices in the area of general commercial litigation, with a particular focus on real estate related matters, including real estate transactions, corporate transactions and closings.
On November 17th 2009, Francis X. Suarez was sworn in as Commissioner for the City of Miami. Prior to running for public office, and joining our law firm, Commissioner Suarez founded Edge Title Company, Inc. a successful real-estate and title firm. He began his law career as an associate at the Miami law firm of Haley Sinagra Paul and Toland, PA. where he specialized in commercial litigation matters and general transactional cases. He then went on to serve as general counsel to Doctors Management Group, a private organization, which provides consulting services for those in the medical field. The Commissioner is also a certified member of the Florida and Federal Bar Associations.
Commissioner Suarez was born and raised in Miami; the oldest of four siblings he was born into a family, where as Suarez describes, being socially conscious was kind of a requirement. He attended La Salle High School, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. While at La Salle, he also participated in student government and served as a student council officer. After graduating from high school he went on to study business at Florida International University where he majored in finance and graduated in the top ten percent of his class. After completing his Bachelors degree he went on to law school, graduating cum laude from the prestigious Frederic G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. While still in law school, Suarez participated as an honors program intern in the Miami Branch of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Enforcement Division. In 2007, Commissioner Suarez established his own family, when he married Gloria M. Fonts.
Prior to being elected to the City of Miami commission, Mr. Suarez performed many civic duties among them as a member of several civic boards. Among those boards is the Orange Bowl Restoration Committee of the City of Miami, Coral Gate Home Owners Association, where he also served as the organization's pro- bono legal counsel. He is also a board member of the Miami Behavioral Center, Inc. and Spectrum Programs, Inc, an organization that counsels troubled youth.
Commissioner Suarez has made a commitment to serve the citizens of the City of Miami with honor and sincerity. He will work diligently to raise the standards of the community that watched him grow up. It is an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of District 4 and the City of Miami at large.
