Oliver Strimpel is an associate in the Intellectual Property Department of WilmerHale. He joined the firm in 2005.
Practice
Dr. Strimpel has extensive experience in the fields of physics, software, and mechanical and medical devices. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the US and overseas. He has executed strategic analyses of patent portfolios and worked with attorneys in patent litigation.
From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Strimpel was director of business development at Zoesis Studios, Inc., a leading creator of seemingly alive, emotional and aware interactive characters for advertising, education and gaming. At this artificial intelligence-based Carnegie Mellon University spin-off, he developed product lines, negotiated pricing and licensing agreements, and built relationships with Fortune 500 corporations involved in consumer products, entertainment and advertising.
As curator of The Computer Museum in Boston from 1984 to 1990 and as executive director from 1990 to 1998, Dr. Strimpel built and managed an internationally recognized museum showcasing state-of-the-art computer-based exhibits on scientific, enterprise and personal computing. He forged ties with national and international computer corporations, academic institutions and user communities.
From 1980 to 1983, Dr. Strimpel served as curator at the National Museum of Science and Industry in London. He created major exhibits on information technology, semiconductors and integrated circuits, science in India and electronic imaging.
