Juliet Johnson Karastelev's practice focuses on appellate advocacy and complex motions in trial courts, and she has developed a forte in retiree health benefit litigation. She has been the lead associate in appellate matters concerning securities, contract, and real estate matters and also has represented pro bono clients in civil rights, habeas corpus, and immigration matters.

Juliet has a strong background in retiree health care litigation. She has been a key member of the Firm's team in the settlement of retiree health benefit class actions on behalf of General Motors Corporation, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and Continental Tire North America. She has significant experience in the preparation of settlement and trust agreements for the establishment of retiree health care trusts.

Juliet is a member of the bars of the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Sixth, Eight, and District of Columbia Circuits as well as the bars of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Maryland Supreme Court. She is also a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Juliet was an international development consultant. She was the resident director of a municipal finance and management program in Moscow from 1995 to 1997. Juliet also supervised a legal and regulatory reform project in South Africa from 1998 to 2000. Both projects were funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
