Attorney Stevens concentrates her practice in business law, nonprofit organizations, commercial real estate, estate planning, estate administration and elder law.
Attorney Stevens advises closely held and family owned companies at all stages of the business life cycle. Helping business owners make better decisions and manage risk, Attorney Stevens partners with clients to select the correct form of business entity, draft ownership control documents such as shareholder agreements, review and negotiate contracts, establish employment practices and documents, obtain financing, acquire and sell business assets, purchase, sell or lease commercial real estate, and establish succession plans and exit strategies. Attorney Stevens also advises a broad range of nonprofit organizations. Attorney Stevens’ work with these organizations includes advising them on formation issues, board governance, the application for tax exempt status and the applicability of federal regulations.
In her prior work as General Counsel for a family owned real estate management and development company, Attorney Stevens had strategic oversight for all legal matters impacting the company and its managed properties. In this role, Attorney Stevens successfully negotiated numerous leases with national big box retailers, completed multi-million dollar financing transactions, and managed numerous litigation and arbitration matters. As a trusted member of the management team, Attorney Stevens helped achieve the highly successfully redevelopment and sale of multiple shopping centers, including a 50 acre retail power center, one of the largest in New England.
Attorney Stevens has taught courses in Business Law and Contracts/Commercial Law at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts, and she frequently lectures on topics of business and employment law at the Center for Women and Enterprise.
Attorney Stevens’ estate planning and elder law practice includes advising and assisting clients on a range of topics impacting Massachusetts seniors, including Medicaid planning, asset protection, Massachusetts estate recovery under Medicaid, Medicare issues, long-term care insurance, nursing home and assisted living contracts, planning for incapacity, and gifting to children and grandchildren. Working with individuals of all ages, Attorney Stevens helps clients develop an estate plan so they can select who will receive their assets and help minimize taxes that may be imposed on their estates. Working with clients to develop an individualized plan, Attorney Stevens drafts documents such as wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, health care proxies, durable powers of attorney and homesteads. She also assists clients with the tasks of settling estates, such as probate administration, liquidating assets, managing property or managing a trust.
