Mark J. Stegman is a shareholder with Mathis, Marifian & Richter (MM&R), who concentrates his practice in business law, taxation, real estate law and estate planning.
Mark has more than 25 years experience providing general counsel to closely held businesses and their owners. His work is focused on a variety of corporate transactions, including corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, stock redemptions, succession planning and buy-sell arrangements. He also has substantial experience handling federal and state tax audits and appeals, as well as commercial loan transactions. Mark represents a wide range of clients, including retailers, automobile dealerships, bankers, manufacturers, distributors and other business clientele.
Before joining MM&R in 1996, Mark spent 13 years with two large law firms located in the St. Louis area. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), he also spent three years with a large accounting firm in St. Louis. Mark's experience, along with his background as a CPA, has provided him with an unusual depth and breadth of experience in solving strategic and operational problems for clients.
Mark frequently lectures on sales and use tax and estate planning topics. He is also a coauthor of "Tax Aspects of Litigation," a chapter in the Illinois Civil Practice handbook, published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Community Involvement
Mark’s many civic involvements include serving as a board member for the YMCA of Southwest Illinois, the Hospice of Southern Illinois and the Memorial Foundation, Inc., a support organization for Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois.
