Jon Starr is the Head of the District Court Litigation Department. His practice is focused on civil litigation, his cases have involved issues of product liability, premises liability, breach of contract, construction disputes, civil rights, medical malpractice, defamation, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, securities, and automobile negligence. Although the major of his practice involves defending civil litigation matters, he did recently obtain a jury verdict of more than $1 million dollars for his clients against an importer of a defective product.
Mr. Starr, who has served as Chairperson of the Oklahoma Bar Association Insurance Section for several years, is one of only about fifty attorneys in the state of Oklahoma who presently holds the designation of "Advocate" with the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has tried more than one hundred cases to jury verdict, made oral argument before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and also does work as a mediator and arbitrator with Mediators and Arbitrators of Oklahoma. He has been recognized as an Oklahoma "Super Lawyers" 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. He is a Fellow of The Litigation Counsel of America which is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellows are selected based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation.
Mr. Starr completed his undergraduate education at Oklahoma State University where he was the Student Government Association President and then graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1991 with distinction where he also served as President of his class.
Mr. Starr is AV rated by Martindale-Hubell, which signifies that this peers have recognized his legal abilities are of the very highest standard and that his professional ethics are unquestioned. He is licensed in the Northern, Western, and Eastern United States District Courts in Oklahoma. He is also licensed before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Cherokee Nation. He is a member of the Oklahoma and American Bar Associations. He is member of the Defense Research Institute, and the International Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Starr serves on the Board of Plumbline Ministries, Inc., a Christian counseling ministry. He is an activity member on Church On The Move.
Mr. Starr is a past President and Board Member of the Oklahoma Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Starr was Oklahoma's DRI state representative from 2007-2009. He has authored three scholarly articles that have been Published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal, "ATTORNEY LIEN CLAIMED: Is it Worth Paper It is Written on ?", "Some Major Points about Minor's Claims", and "Overview of Oklahoma Automobile Insurance Law." He has spoken at numerous continuing legal education seminars for attorneys and continuing education seminars for claims adjusters on insurance and litigation topics over the years.
