Gary K. Springstead is an attorney in the Fremont office of Springstead & Bartish Law Offices, P.L.L.C., where he has developed a busy criminal defense practice in state and federal court. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Springstead was an F.B.I. Special Agent for approximately five years, investigating and assisting in the prosecution of a broad range of federal crimes ranging from sophisticated white collar crimes to violent crimes, terrorism and national security matters. This included investigating numerous high-profile cases in the United States and abroad. Mr. Springstead currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan, a Member of the National College of DUI Defense, a Member of The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a Council Member, Litigation Section, State Bar of Michigan.
CRIMINAL DEFENSE
Mr. Springstead's criminal practice is split fairly evenly between federal criminal cases in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and state criminal cases in Mason, (Ludington, MI) Oceana, (Hart/Pentwater, MI), Muskegon (Muskegon, Whitehall and Montague) and Newaygo counties (Fremont, Newaygo, and Grant).
In federal court, Mr. Springstead represents people charged with a variety of violent and white collar crimes.
Mr. Springstead has had success excluding evidence, getting charges reduced to less serious charges, including federal misdemeanors, avoiding charges altogether, and received downward departures or variances at sentencing for a variety of reasons. Mr. Springstead's experience as an F.B.I. Agent and Special Assistant United States Attorney are particularly useful in defending these cases.
In state court, Mr. Springstead handles serious felonies as well as misdemeanors. Mr. Springstead's successes include winning not guilty verdicts at trial, directed verdicts of acquittal, denial of bindover at preliminary examinations, suppression motions, and outright dismissals.
