A former executive with Geneva Steel, Ken Johnsen brings extensive corporate and legal experience in the areas of finance, securities, bankruptcy, work out and general litigation.
Mr. Johnsen began his legal career at Parr Brown in 1986 and left in 1990 to work for firm client, Geneva Steel. Over a period of fourteen years, he served in a number of capacities ranging from General Counsel to President and CEO. As Executive Vice President, he was responsible for non-manufacturing functions including human resources, engineering, procurement, marketing, systems, real estate, and finance. As General Counsel for a publicly-traded company, Mr. Johnsen advised the CEO and board on a broad range of matters including corporate governance, SEC reporting, takeover preparation, antitrust litigation bankruptcy, employee and union relations, real estate, patents, construction, trademarks, environmental, trade, insurance, and product liability. As CEO, he gained first-hand experience with matters relating to corporate finance, restructuring, reorganization under Chapter 11, union negotiations, customer and vendor relations and corporate goverance.
After leaving Geneva Steel, Mr. Johnsen applied this vast experience as a consultant for a number of entities. He currently serves as a director of Joy Global, Inc., a worldwide leader in manufacturing, servicing and distributing equipment for the mining industry.
Ken Johnsen received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude in Finance from Utah State University, where he was the College of Business Scholar of the Year, and his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School, where he served as Editor of the Yale Law Journal and Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Journal on Regulation.
Mr. Johnsen was listed in the 2010 edition of Utah Business Magazine's Legal Elite.
