Humphrey Johnson has won jury trials for individuals and businesses in courts throughout Maine. He has secured summary judgments in numerous cases, with particular focus on the legal and factual complexities found in timber trespass actions and associated real estate disputes. He has also prosecuted and defended catastrophic injury actions, construction defect cases, actions involving civil engineering failures, product liability disputes, and fire loss claims. Humphrey's other experiences have brought him face-to-face with a variety of high-stress situations. He has witnessed extreme hardship and loss, and continues to be amazed by the courage and commitment of people too modest to call themselves brave. His focus as a lawyer is to get individuals and businesses through tough times so they can succeed in the years ahead.
Humphrey graduated summa cum laude from the School of International Service at The American University in 1990. After working with law firms in New York, he studied at the University of Maine School of Law, graduating cum laude in 1997.
He then served as a Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, where he advised commanders while leading an operational law team with the 25th Infantry Division. He prosecuted crimes in Hawaii and Utah as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. As a Special U.S. Assistant Attorney for the District of New Mexico he worked with the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representing the Department of the Army and the Department of Defense in complex water rights litigation.
Before becoming a United States citizen, Humphrey lived in the United Kingdom. He graduated amongst the top of his class from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, and as a Lieutenant in the British Army he commanded soldiers in what was then West Germany and on operational duty in Northern Ireland.
He lives in Freeport with his wife and rescue dog, enjoying the company of his adult children whenever they return home from their own life adventures.
