Spencer, J. Shawn

In addition to the firm practice areas of insurance bad faith and personal injury, Ms. Jo also handles construction litigation and construction defect litigation.  Preferring to represent small contractors and property owners (residential and commercial), Ms. Jo has appeared in administrative hearings regarding Registrar of Contractors complaints as well as appearing in superior court, federal court and justice court to assert or defend claims arising out of a construction project or later claims of defective workmanship.  Ms. Jo's background in construction and housing as a special structural inspector for Caruso Turley Scott, a plan reviewer for the City of Phoenix and a housing and rental licensing inspector for the City of Minneapolis gives her first-hand understanding and appreciation for the issues and concerns that are specific to the construction industry.

Prior to starting with Treon & Shook as an associate in August 2005, Ms. Jo worked as an associate for Rai & Barone (formerly Iafrate and Rai) in Phoenix, a firm which specializes in defending small contractors in construction defect litigation.  Ms. Jo's first position as an attorney was as an associate with the Law Offices of Terry Esser, located in Tucson, Arizona, a firm that handled a variety of matters, including construction and commercial litigation.   

An Arizona native, Ms. Jo attended law school at the James E. Rogers College of Law in Tucson, Arizona.  She graduated from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota as a philosophy major, giving her perspective on the two years she spent as an undergraduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ms. Jo is admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona and in federal district court in Arizona.
