Brent Sokol litigates complex intellectual property disputes, often involving international forums and multiple forms of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. He is a frequent speaker on international licensing and corporate restructuring of intellectual property assets. A former biomedical engineer, Brent has significant jury trial and patent prosecution experience in the field of medical devices. Brent's recent lead representations include Ardian, a medical device company, regarding its global patent strategy; Munhwa Broadcasting, the leading Korean television network, in obtaining a preliminary injunction against trademark infringement of its hit series title; and Mattel, concerning trademark and trade dress infringement of its MAGIC 8 BALL rights. A litigator with a broad background in high-profile cases, Brent has represented Mattel in connection with Congressional hearings and investigations concerning toys allegedly sold in violation of regulatory standards. Other companies Brent has worked with include DreamWorks, funnyordie.com, Sunkist, Target, and Toyota. Medical device experience includes Algodyne, Ardian, Embol-X, General Surgical Innovations, Gen-Probe, Mentor, and Neocrin.
Brent is a frequent speaker on intellectual property topics. He has been featured on Fox 11 News concerning his John Anson Ford Award for intellectual property litigation on behalf of L.A. County Commission on Human Relations. Brent is on the regional board of the Anti-Defamation League, author of the successful ADL amicus brief to the 9th Circuit in the Boise case, and co-chair of the ADL summer associate legal research program.
