Veronica Jackson is an attorney in the firm’s labor and employment group.  Ms. Jackson’s practice also includes general business litigation.
 
Ms. Jackson’s employment practice includes representing employees in individual and class action disputes in the areas of religion, gender, and race discrimination and harassment, work place sexual assault claims, wage and hour cases under the FLSA and state law, state and federal constitutional claims, breach of contract claims, trade secret and covenant not to compete claims, and state law wrongful termination related state law claims.  Ms. Jackson also assists private employers with similar disputes.  Ms. Jackson regularly represents federal employees from various U.S. agencies and therefore has experience in the federal EEO complaint process.  Ms. Jackson aggressively represents her clients in administrative actions at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state and local agencies, and in civil actions in the surrounding federal and state courts.  Ms. Jackson also negotiates favorable and strategic settlements for her clients.
 
Ms. Jackson’s labor practice includes representation to labor unions regarding individual employee grievances, unfair labor complaints against the employer, and group grievances handled on a class-wide basis.  The labor group also served as general counsel to a local union, in which Ms. Jackson provides advice regarding internal governance and general business issues.  Ms. Jackson has represented union and union members in claims before the District of Columbia’s Public Employees Relations Board and the Office of Employee Appeals. 

Ms. Jackson has experience litigating small to complex matters on a variety of legal issues.  Ms. Jackson’s substantive experience includes employment law, labor law, class actions, breach of contract, tortious interference, and various other federal and state law claims.  Prior to joining the firm, Veronica was an Associate at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP in its New York and Washington, D.C. offices.  Her practice at Kelley Drye focused on general commercial litigation, class actions, and privacy law. 

Notable decisions in which Ms. Jackson participated See Washington Teachers’ Union, Local #6, et al. v. Clarence Labor, Jr., et al., Case No. 11-OA-36, 2012 D.C. App. Lexis 21, (D.C. Jan. 27, 2012) (holding OEA was obligated to timely hear and decide employee appeal cases, despite high case volume and budgetary constraints).
