Louise N. Smith is an Associate in the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Wage & Hour Groups. She works to minimize the risks of litigation and attain the best settlements for her clients.
In 2011, Ms. Smith received her law degree from Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia. While in law school, Smith developed a passion for labor and employment law. She received the CALI Award for the highest grade in Employment Discrimination and won first place in the 2011 College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law Annual Law Student Writing Competition.
Ms. Smith received the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Student Advocacy Award (an honorary scroll given to the graduating senior who demonstrates excellence in trial advocacy). She also won third place in the 2011 International Association of Defense Counsel Legal Writing Contest, third place in the 2011 Mendes Hershman Student Writing Contest, sponsored by the ABA Business Law Section, and first place in the 2010 Keenan's Kids Closing Argument Competition. She also participated in moot court as a member of the 2009-2010 Frederick Douglass Moot Court Team and won the Best Brief Award.
During law school, Ms. Smith worked as a research assistant for Professor Linda Berger and as a teaching assistant in Legal Analysis (a required first-year course). She also worked as a summer associate at James, Bates, Pope & Spivey, LLP and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Philip Brown of the Bibb County Superior Court.
Ms. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a Master of Arts degree in Communication from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, where she was a member of the women's basketball team.
Ms. Smith was born and raised "Down Under" in Melbourne, Australia. She is married to William J. Smith, a 2011 JD/MBA graduate of Mercer University. They are the proud parents of Alana M. Smith.
