Marc J. Smith is a founding member of the law firm of Smith, Lease & Goldstein, LLC based in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Marc handles a broad range of employment law and employment litigation matters throughout the State of Maryland and the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Marc is licensed to practice law in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Georgia. A Montgomery County native, Marc has been practicing law for 22 years and is a 1990 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill law school.
Marc spent the first 7 years of his legal career as an associate with Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, a large Atlanta-based firm where he represented management in employment and employment litigation matters throughout the southeast. While working in Atlanta, Marc obtained invaluable training handling employment litigation matters on behalf of large publicly traded companies such as Northwest Airlines, GTE and HBO & Company. Following his relocation to the D.C. area and the establishment of Smith, Lease & Goldstein, LLC in February 2000, Marc has represented both employers and employees in a diverse array of employment law and litigation cases in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Marc was recognized as a Maryland and Washington D.C. "Super Lawyer" in 2007 in the field of employment law. Marc was also recognized as a "Super Lawyer" in the 2008 Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel edition.

Marc represents private sector employees and executives, federal and state employees and a number of regional employers in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, including banks, financial service firms, government contractors, medical and dental practices and retail concerns. Marc also has substantial experience negotiating and drafting executive, employment and severance agreements, employee handbooks and other employment-related documents. In his 2 decades of practicing law, Marc has litigated hundreds of cases and he has successfully defended and pursued a diverse array of employment claims in both the state and federal court systems, in arbitration and at the administrative level.
Marc has also developed a unique practice area representing individuals who have failed to register with the Selective Service. Most of these cases involve federal employees or applicants for federal positions who find themselves ineligible for federal service due to their failure to register with the Selective Service.
