Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Kurt Hurtgen received his B.A. in Communications from Loyola University of Chicago. He later attended IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law as a Ramsey-Burke Scholarship recipient where he was awarded his Juris Doctor degree. Kurt is admitted to the Illinois Bar and is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and Winnebago County Bar Association. Kurt is also a 17th Circuit Court-Annexed Mandatory Arbitration Panelist. Prior to joining the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd., Kurt practiced in the City of Rockford and handled cases across Northern Illinois, from Jo Daviess and Whiteside Counties in the West to Cook and Lake Counties in the East. He represented petitioners and putative fathers in paternity actions and subsequent custody and support litigation. Kurt acted as court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem in paternity and divorce actions, including family investigation and preparation of court recommendations. He litigated all facets of divorce cases, including custody, visitation, orders of protection and support issues. His litigation background also includes consumer and small business bankruptcy cases.
