I was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 8th, 1964, specifically Evergreen Park. I attended the University of Michigan and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Minor in English. Along the way, I had the opportunity to work for a senior member of Congress and quickly decided that the political life was not for me. Instead, I enrolled in the Detroit College of Law, one of the oldest free standing law schools in the country, as well as the alma mater of the only U.S. Supreme Court Justice from Michigan, Justice Frank Murphy.
After law school, I clerked for the Michigan Court of Appeals in the pre-hearing division which offered me a wide exposure to a number of legal disciplines. That was followed by a stint with the bankruptcy trustee which was a wonderful exposure to both the federal court system and the business world. That grew into a position with a boutique business firm which represented a number of closely held businesses in the transportation industry. It afforded me the opportunity to work on the transactional as well as the litigation side of the law. As a result of my participation in various cases, I learned how to build a highway (in conjunction with the representation of a construction company on a fuel excise tax case) and learned quite a bit more than I ever cared to about drainage tile.
I guess what I love the most about the law is the opportunity to learn about other businesses and occupations I would otherwise not be exposed to. More importantly, assisting my clients in the realization and protection of their business ventures gives me great satisfaction.
