Russell S. Humphrey received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of San Francisco in 1994. Mr. Humphrey went to the University of San Francisco on a full-ride athletic scholarship for golf. In 1994, Mr. Humphrey was the West Coast Conference (WCC) men’s golf champion. That same year he was a first team WCC all conference selection for men’s golf.
In 2000, Mr. Humphrey received his Juris Doctorate from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.
After passing the bar exam, Mr. Humphrey served as a Deputy District Attorney for the County of San Joaquin. During his time in the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Humphrey prosecuted all types of crimes from misdemeanors up to the most serious felonies. Mr. Humphrey was well known for taking many of his cases to jury trial where he enjoyed extraordinary success.
In 2004, Mr. Humphrey left the District Attorney’s Office and went to work for the Hakeem, Ellis & Marengo law firm as an associate attorney. While at Hakeem, Ellis & Marengo, Mr. Humphrey handled both civil and criminal cases with an emphasis towards litigation. Mr. Humphrey represented many individual and institutional clients during this time in his career.
In 2008, Mr. Humphrey opened a solo practice in his hometown of Lodi, California. While in solo practice, Mr. Humphrey focused his practice on civil and criminal litigation with an emphasis on jury trial practice. It was during this time that Mr. Humphrey began his association with Ralph Cingcon, one of the preeminent trial lawyers in California, and the two began to develop the concept that would ultimately become The Theme-Based ApproachTM to Jury Trial Practice, a revolutionary approach to jury trial persuasion.
In 2010, Mr. Humphrey opened the Humphrey Law Group with Mr. Cingcon as Of Counsel. The Humphrey Law Group is dedicated to excellence in advocacy and focuses it’s practice on civil rights and criminal litigation. In the civil rights arena, Mr. Humphrey is one of the premier advocates for persons with disabilities that wish to proceed with litigation under the American’s with Disabilities Act. In addition, Mr. Humphrey devotes a portion of his practice to criminal law and jury trial advocacy.
Mr. Humphrey and Mr. Cingcon also consult with other attorneys and law firms through their consulting and advisory firm, Theme-Based Trial Advisors.
As the co-creator of the Theme-Based ApproachTM to Jury Trial Practice, Mr. Humphrey has lectured on Theme-Based Voir Dire and contributed to litigation-based websites.
Mr. Humphrey is married with two children.
