As a trial attorney, John brings 30 years of experience primarily in the practice areas of employment and labor law, having represented labor unions in the private and public sector for most of his career. John also focuses in the areas of sexual harassment and discrimination, wage and hour matters, intellectual property, workers' compensation, personal injury, and other civil litigation matters.
As an employment and labor attorney, John has been involved in representing individual clients and labor organizations across the United States. John began his career litigating unfair labor practices (ULP) claims as a trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). He has worked in the areas of collective bargaining, including advice and negotiation, union organizing campaigns, as well as labor arbitration and mediation. John has earned a national reputation for producing exceptional results for his clients. Many of his labor law cases have come from referrals from other attorneys or from labor unions he has represented in the past.
During his career, he was the appointed by the County Executive to serve as the first Executive Director of the Baltimore County Human Relations Commission. His role was to create a working agency from scratch. He developed the first mediation program for the Human Relations Commission in Maryland and trained 35 mediators in conjunction with FMCS and Baltimore County Human Relations Commission. He served as a Special Master for the Honorable Marvin Garbus in the United Stated District Court for the District of Maryland helping to oversee complex employment law litigation in that court. John was elected Chairman and served as an officer on the Executive Council of the Maryland State Bar Association Labor and Employment Section for over 12 years earning the Distinguished Service Award.
John has worked with clients in all of the issues that may arise in the workplace including severance agreements, sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination, civil rights, wage and hour issues, non-competition and severance agreements, and intellectual property litigation particularly in areas of copyright.
The International Maritime Organization, a United Nations Organization, appointed John to the Lawyers Committee to assist in drafting international treaties and laws concerning maritime issues around the globe. In 2007, John was a representative for the International Transport Federation in London, England. John acted as the International General Counsel between 1999 and 2009, for the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots, AFL-CIO which covers all legal matters in the United States and Puerto Rico.
