James B. Hovland focuses his practice on civil litigation with a mass tort emphasis. He also works with many small business clients' concerns. His expertise covers a broad range of civil law topics, and he is well-versed in all kinds of transportation issues. Mr. Hovland has a proven track record of success in all of his primary practice areas.
Mr. Hovland completed his undergraduate education at the University of North Dakota. He then went on to earn his law degree from the University of Colorado in 1972. He was admitted to the bar in North Dakota the same year. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit (1976), Minnesota, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit (1980), U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota (1984), and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit (1988).
Mr. Hovland is an active member of the legal community, belonging to a number of prestigious legal organizations. He is a member of Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations, The State Bar Association of North Dakota, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association. He is also active politically, serving on Metropolitan transportation committees and the Edina City Council.
