A member of the firm since 1994, Steve received both his degree in Accounting and his Law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Florida, and his L.L.M. (Masters in Taxation) from New York University. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar and the Florida Bar, and is licensed to practice in the United States Tax Court. Steve is also a member of the Southeastern Region IRS Tax Liaison Committee, the North Carolina Bar Tax Section, and the American Bar Association?Section on Taxation Committee on Administrative Practice. He served as Chairman of the North Carolina Bar Tax Section, and is a Fellow in the American College of Tax Counsel. He is also a member of the Tax Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. Steve has over 25 years of experience as a Tax Practitioner. He began as a trial attorney with the Office of District Counsel Internal Revenue Service in Greensboro, NC. He then served as a Tax Practitioner and trial attorney representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue. He is a frequent lecturer and discussion leader at North Carolina CPA seminars and tax symposiums, other state CPA Associations, the North Carolina Bar Association, and bar association meetings and symposiums in other states. Steve is the author of the article Negotiating Strategies for Effectively Settling Civil Tax Controversies with the Internal Revenue Service. Steve was also among eight lawyers at Wishart Norris Henninger & Pittman chosen by his peers to be recognized as a ""2006 and 2007 North Carolina Super Lawyer"" in the practice area of Tax.
Steve's practice focuses on taxation, including Civil/Criminal IRS and North Carolina tax controversy, IRS and State tax collection matters, corporate, partnership, individual, and estate taxation, income and estate tax planning matters, and general business and contract matters.
