Sikes, Douglas C.

Mr. Sichta is a member of the Florida Bar, and graduated with Cum Laude Honors from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, with double majors in Criminology and Sociology. Mr. Sichta played on the University’s Baseball Team and was an Academic All-Conference selection as a result of his 4.0 GPA during the season.  He moved to Jacksonville in 2000 to attend Florida Coastal School of Law, where he served as the Vice-President of the Student Bar Association and made the Dean’s scholar and dean’s lists on numerous occasions.

Upon graduation Mr. Sichta spent over eight years with the AV-rated bouquet criminal defense firm of Tassone, Sichta, Dreicer, LLC, where he was a partner with this firm for five years. Mr. Sichta then opened The Sichta Firm, LLC, predominately practicing appellate law and criminal defense with his wife and law partner, Susanne Sichta. Mr. Sichta currently practices Criminal and Civil Appellate law, and Criminal law with the law firm of Arnold and Sichta.
 
Mr. Sichta is admitted to practice in the Florida Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Sichta is also a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Florida Bar’s Appellate Practice Section, and the Registry Counsel list for the Commission on Capital Cases.

Mr. Sichta has litigated over 50 appeals to their conclusion, including arguing cases in the First, Second, and Fifth District Court of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, the Federal Middle District Court, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. During this time, Mr. Sichta has handed many high profile criminal cases, and has been successful in overturning a client’s death sentence.

Mr. Sichta is currently a director of the Florida Capital Resource Center, as well as an adjunct Professor at Florida Coastal School of Law. Mr. Sichta has participated in numerous speaking engagements regarding wrongful convictions and appeals. Mr. Sichta has appeared on television regarding the Tajuane Dubose trial and the Casey Anthony trial.   Mr. Sichta was recently recognized as one of Florida’s “Rising Stars” in appellate law by Superlawyers magazine, a distinction only given to 2.5% of attorneys under the age of 40.

Mr. Sichta is married to Susanne Sichta, the firm’s of-counsel attorney.
