Maya Shulman was born in Latvia on October 11, 1970. Ms. Shulman studied medicine at the University of Latvia, School of Medicine from 1987 to 1989. Ms. Shulman emigrated to New York in 1990, and graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1995.
In 1995, Ms. Shulman moved to Los Angeles and attended the University of West Los Angeles, School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor Degree in May, 1999. During her studies at U.W.L.A., Ms. Shulman was selected for a special judicial externship with the Los Angeles Superior Court as a research assistant for the Honorable Mary Ann Murphy, Judge of the Superior Court.
Ms. Shulman was admitted to the California Bar and the U.S. District Court (Central District) in June, 2000. Ms. Shulman is a member of the Family Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and San Fernando Valley Bar Association.
Concerned with humanitarian efforts, Ms. Shulman represented numerous low-income litigants through the non-profit Vincent Family Law Center in Los Angeles.
She is the mother of an elementary school aged daughter.
Ms. Shulman is fluent in Russian and Latvian. Ms. Shulman also speaks Polish, Ukrainian and Belorussian.
