Denis Shmidt received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 2009, where he was an Officer on the Moot Court Honors Board. He received his B.S. in Economics and B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego in 2006, where he was Chairman of his College Student Counsel and where he received the Outstanding Senior of the Year and New Student Leader of the Year Awards. During law school, Denis worked for U.S. District Judge Margaret Morrow and for the NYU Brennan Center for Justice.
Prior to joining Sacks, Glazier, Franklin & Lodise, Denis was a litigation associate at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he handled a variety of complex civil litigation matters in the areas of antitrust, patent, trademark, shareholder derivative, and class actions. While at Sullivan & Cromwell, Denis was part of the litigation team which successfully settled a multi-year class action antitrust case in the Federal District of Puerto Rico. He has also performed pro bono legal work for Kids in Need of Defense and for victims of domestic abuse.
Denis is actively involved in the community and currently serves as the Interim President of the Board of Directors for Ark Theatre and as a Board Member for The Story Project.
