Born in Lansing, Michigan, James C. Higgs grew up as the child of a Missionary in Levittown, Puerto Rico. That is where he learned the drive to love and serve people. After attending high school in Atlanta, Georgia, Jim went to college at Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Ministry and Christian Education. While still an ordained minister and active in the Church, Jim determined the best use of his intellect and giftedness was in the pursuit of a legal career. After graduating second in his class at Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, and a brief practice with at Davidson Breen & Doud, a busy litigation firm in Saginaw, Flint, and Lansing, Jim decided to strike out on his own in Central Michigan, hang a shingle, and open a practice catering for the needs of families with aging parents. The December 2007 chance meeting with James T. Stein led to a great partnership and mentorship in the intricacies of legal practice and customer service.
Since March 2008, Jim has sought to build a practice based on attentiveness to client needs, friendship, and a helping hand. In 2012, Jim decided to begin narrowing his focus from a general broad practice, to catering more specifically for those in need of estate planning, estate administration, nursing home medicaid planning, and issues with illnesses of the aging process. It is in this type of work that Jim finds the potential to do the most good and help people with decisions and difficulties that can be their greatest struggle.
