Howard Hertz established the law firm of Hertz Schram with Bradley Schram in 1979. He specializes in entertainment law and is the lead attorney of Hertz Schram's Entertainment Practice Group. Since 1976 he has represented numerous artists and entities in the entertainment field, including authors, filmmakers, screenwriters, recording artists, radio personalities, producers, production companies, record labels, agents, artist managers, music publishers, songwriters and athletes. Among others, his most well-known clients have been George Clinton, Sippie Wallace, The Romantics, The Bass Brothers, Eminem, Marilyn Manson, Russell Simmons, O-Town, Pantera, Marcus Belgrave, The GO, Mike Posner, Elmore Leonard, Warner Tamerlane and Atlantic Records. Services provided to entertainment clients range from contract negotiation and litigation to entity formation and estate/tax planning.  Mr. Hertz also serves as a mediator and expert witness regularly in entertainment related disputes.  Mr. Hertz travels to MIDEM, the International Music Festival in Cannes, France, annually, on behalf of his clients.

Among the many organizations and honors to Mr. Hertz's credit, he is a member of the Board of Directors and President of the Detroit Music Awards Foundation, a member of MusiCares' Program and Services Committee (MusiCares is one of two charitable arms of the Recording Academy, which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need), a member and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Sphinx Organization, a former member of the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (Grammy Awards) Chicago Chapter (2004-2012), a former member of the Michigan Film Advisory Commission (2006-2008), a Michigan State Bar Foundation Fellow, a member of the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers, a member of the Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing & Communication Arts Board of Visitors, and a member and former chairperson of the Arts, Communications, Entertainment and Sports Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Mr. Hertz was the 2004 recipient of the John Hensel Award for significant contributions to the arts community. Mr. Hertz is also recognized by "Best Lawyers in America" and was featured in "Super Lawyers".

Mr. Hertz is an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan Law School and Wayne State University Law School teaching a course in entertainment law. Mr. Hertz graduated from Wayne State University in 1972 with distinction and received his law degree from Wayne State University in 1976, where he graduated cum laude.

Howard Hertz has participated on panels and lectured on various entertainment related topics for organizations and schools such as: the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education, National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Wayne State University Law School, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Cooley Law School, Michigan State University College of Law, University of Michigan Law School, Wayne County's Film Friendly Seminar, Ann Arbor Film Festival, MOBfest and the Detroit Historical Museum.

Howard Hertz appeared on Detroit Public Television's Due Process to discuss entertainment law. He was also interviewed by Aaron Dworkin for Twenty2Six.com , a site dedicated to enriching the lines of communication between communities and their leaders.
