Douglas J. Schweickert was born in Spring Valley, IL in 1952. He graduated from Bradley University, summa cum laude, in 1973 graduating first in his class. He then attended graduate school at Bradley University pursuing an MBA (perfect GPA). He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in December, 1976, summa cum laude, graduating first in his mid-year graduating class. He was admitted to practice in the State of Illinois in 1977.
Mr. Schweickert’s legal experience is concentrated in municipal law, real estate, construction law, wills and estates. He has represented the City of Peru for over 30 years and, in his earlier career, he represented hundreds of injured persons before the Illinois Worker’s Compensation Commission and in civil litigation.
Since 1977, he has represented both municipalities and developers before city councils, village boards, plan commissions, and zoning boards of appeal. Mr. Schweickert has attended hundreds of meetings before municipal units of government. He has litigated, at both the trial court and appellate court levels, numerous zoning, building demolition, eminent domain, and labor law cases.
In thousands of real estate transactions, Mr. Schweickert has represented sellers, buyers, developers, and lenders. He is a title agent for Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc.
Mr. Schweickert has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors and engineers in over 100 claims, mediations, and arbitrations. He has also represented banks and financial institutions his entire career . He has been a director of Hometown National Bank, LaSalle, IL since 1989.
Mr. Schweickert’s wife, Rorie, is a practicing CPA in Peru. They have two children, Steven, an accountancy graduate of the University of Illinois, working in the family accounting firm and Scott, a law student at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
